Getting Started
How do I install OCKey?
Download OCKey from the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). After installing, open the OCKey app to complete onboarding, then enable the OCKey keyboard in your device settings:
- iOS: Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → OCKey
- Android: Settings → System → Languages & input → On-screen keyboard → Manage → Enable OCKey
Do I need an account to use OCKey?
The Free tier works without an account for local-only use. To enable cloud sync, access paid features, or use Vision AI templates, you’ll need to sign in with Apple, Google, or email.
Is OCKey available in my language?
OCKey’s on-device OCR supports Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Devanagari, and many other scripts through Apple Vision and Google ML Kit. Vision AI templates support virtually all written languages. The app interface is currently available in English, with more languages coming soon.
Using OCKey
How do I capture text from a document?
- Tap a text field in any app to bring up the keyboard
- Switch to the OCKey keyboard (hold the globe/keyboard icon and select OCKey)
- Select a template (e.g., “Receipt”, “Datetime”, “Tracking Number”)
- Point your camera at the document and capture
- Tap the extracted field chip to insert it at your cursor
What is the difference between Pattern, Region, and Vision AI?
- Pattern: Uses regex and pattern matching on OCR text. Best for structured data like dates, phone numbers, and tracking codes. Runs entirely on-device, instant, and free.
- Region: Crops specific zones from the image and OCRs each zone. Best for fixed-layout forms where fields are always in the same position. On-device and free.
- Vision AI: Sends the image to a cloud-based AI model that understands document layout and context. Best for variable-format documents like receipts from different vendors. Requires Pro+ plan or BYOK.
What is auto-tab mode?
Auto-tab templates are configured for specific known forms. Instead of showing extracted fields as chips for you to tap individually, OCKey inserts each field and automatically advances to the next form input — filling an entire form from a single capture. Enterprise admins can create auto-tab templates for your organisation’s internal apps.
Can I create my own templates?
Yes. Open the OCKey host app, go to Templates, and tap “Create Template.” Define the fields you want to extract, choose an extraction strategy, and optionally configure auto-tab settings. Pro and Pro+ subscribers can create unlimited templates.
Subscription & Billing
How do I upgrade to Pro or Pro+?
Open the OCKey app, go to Settings → Subscription, and choose your plan. Payment is processed through the App Store (iOS), Play Store (Android), or via our website for enterprise plans.
Can I get a lifetime license?
Lifetime licenses are available for the Pro tier. Because Pro+ includes bundled AI processing that has ongoing costs, it is available as a subscription only. Lifetime Pro includes all Pro features with no recurring payments.
How do I cancel my subscription?
- iOS: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → OCKey → Cancel
- Android: Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → OCKey → Cancel
You retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period.
How do I request a refund?
For App Store or Play Store purchases, request a refund through Apple or Google respectively. For web-based payments, contact our support team within 14 days of purchase.
Privacy & Security
Does OCKey store my captured images?
No. On-device captures (Pattern and Region strategies) never leave your phone. Vision AI captures are streamed through our proxy in real time and immediately discarded — we do not store images on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. All data in transit uses TLS encryption. Data at rest (account info, templates, API keys) is encrypted using AES-256. BYOK API keys are stored in per-user encrypted vaults.
What is BYOK (Bring Your Own Key)?
BYOK lets Pro+ subscribers use their own API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google to access premium AI models. With BYOK, image data goes directly from your device to the AI provider — it never passes through our servers. This gives you full control over your AI provider relationship and usage.
Enterprise
How does team template management work?
Enterprise administrators can create templates in the admin dashboard and assign them to team members by group or role. Templates sync automatically to employee devices after SSO login. Individual users can also create personal templates alongside org templates.
Does OCKey support SSO?
SSO/SAML integration is on our roadmap for the Enterprise tier. Currently, team members sign in with Apple, Google, or email. Contact our sales team for enterprise pilot availability.
Troubleshooting
OCKey keyboard doesn’t appear after installation
Make sure you’ve enabled OCKey in your device’s keyboard settings (see installation instructions above). On iOS, you may also need to grant “Full Access” for camera functionality. Restart your device if the keyboard still doesn’t appear.
Camera doesn’t open from the keyboard
Ensure OCKey has camera permissions enabled in your device settings. On iOS, keyboard extensions require “Full Access” to use the camera — go to Settings → OCKey → Allow Full Access.
OCR results are inaccurate
- Ensure good lighting — avoid shadows and glare on the document
- Hold the camera steady and keep the document flat
- For complex documents (receipts with varying layouts), use a Vision AI template instead of Pattern
- Make sure your device’s OS is up to date for the latest OCR model improvements
Vision AI is slow or timing out
Vision AI requires an internet connection. Check your network connectivity. Processing time varies by document complexity and AI provider load — typical response times are 1-4 seconds. If timeouts persist, try a different AI model in your template settings or check the provider’s status page.
